Frequently Asked Questions

What is Intermodal?

  • Intermodal freight transport is the transportation of freight in an intermodal container, often using multiple modes of transportation – like truck, ship, and rail – without ever having to handle the freight itself when changing shipping modes.  Intermodal transportation reduces cargo handling and improves security while reducing damage and loss, allowing freight to be transported quicker.

How does ERL Intermodal transport freight?

  • ERL Intermodal has a fleet of 50 trucks which makes daily runs to the Northeast Ports.  As shipping containers arrive on cargo ships and are unloaded at the ports, they are loaded onto an ERL truck where they will be transported to your business.
